Should I Get Dermal Filler or Treatment?

The answer is – if you want it then yes!

Aesthetics treatments cover a wide range of therapies, all of which are designed to make you look and feel better in yourself.

You don’t need treatments, but they can make a huge difference in the way you feel.

You can have a big increase in confidence can result from a relatively small treatment.

For example if you lift a down turned lip (which tends to occur as you become more mature) with filler treatment, you can change the overall impression of your look, This can make you appear more approachable.

You can give a less intimidating impression by reducing the frown lines with anti-wrinkle treatment (and the prevention of the ability to frown strongly can also retrain the muscles so that you actually frown less in future).

And having filler used to lift the face can just make you feel more yourself.

The major areas of non-surgical treatments at Bridgewater Aesthetics are:

Dermal filler

Anti-wrinkle and skin boosting injections

Medical Grade Skincare and

Fat dissolving.

The age limits are from 18y to 100y!!

Clearing up skin and giving a glowing look can reduce the need for makeup before leaving the house and really increase confidence.

Skincare for acne can be prescribed for under 18s with parental/ guardian consent.

What is dermal filler and what will it do?

Dermal Fillers are based on hyaluronic acid, a natural product in the skin that gives elasticity and structure.

You can enhance certain features with careful placement of filler, for example to increase the volume of your lips and to add contour to the cheeks.

However, its real benefit to clients as they age is to rejuvenate the face where it can be used in a multilayering technique, using combinations of different strength filler, to reverse the appearance of ageing.

With time, not only do some of the fat pads in the skin shrink and drop down in the face but parts of the bone get reabsorbed and parts of the chin, jaw and eye sockets change in shape.

You can lift the face and look more youthful with the placement of a firm dermal filler in the areas where bone has reduced. The chin can be moved downwards (it tends to turn upwards with time). You can get a gentle youthful curve to the cheek and chin with a more mobile filler. Your face will look refreshed and move naturally with expression. Lifting your face can reduce the effect of jowls, and you can disguise jowls more with dermal filler in the jawline.

At Bridgewater Aesthetics, we use award winning Teoxane products that last on average 12-18months (can be longer). They and have a proven excellent safety profile. These fillers are unique in that the filler moves naturally with the muscles and skin, unlike other brands.

You can rejuvenate your lipsby replacing lost volume with a natural dermal filler giving a natural hydrated appearance with a crisper border. This allowing lipstick to stay in position rather than bleeding. Dermal filler and specific techniques can reduce ‘smoker’s lines’. The treatment gives a beautiful natural look of lip restoration.

At Bridgewater Aesthetics, we use cannula (which as a tiny tube( as much as possible to reduce the risk of side effects and of bruising.

Is dermal filler safe?

Any dermal filler treatment is invasive, introduced wither with a needle or a cannula (a plastic tube that is then removed).

There is a risk of infection, bruising and a long-term risk of nodules (small lumps that may need to have treatment or removal if needed). To reduce this, good practical technique and medical treatment is used. . There is also a risk of allergic reaction, which required urgent treatment depending on the severity.

In the worst-case scenario, the filler can compress or enter the blood vessels supplying the tissue, and in this case it is important to treat early by reversing the treatment using a medical product (hyaluronidase). The original treatment can then be repeated after a 2 week period. . Good technique and knowledge of anatomy and using the correct filler in the correct place all reduces the risk of a blockage, as can using a cannula rather than a needle.

Although this is a rare complication, it is a known complication and therefore I would always check that your aesthetics practitioner has the reversal treatment kit with them.

Anti-wrinkle Treatments

If lines are bothering you, the commonest antiwrinkle treatment is injection of botulinum toxin, a prescribed product, that reduces the action of muscles and so reduces lines produced.

Commonly the muscles injected are around the eyes to reduce crows’ feet, the frown muscles to reduce frown lines, and in the forehead to reduce lines there. The treatment can also reduce gummy smile, and a turn up a downturned mouth, as well as reduce dimpled skin over the chin.

Similar side effects to those of any injection are a risk (bleeding, bruising, pain) as well as spread to areas such as the eyelids (which can cause a drop in the lid) , dryness and in the case of spread to eye movement muscles, double vision.

These effects are all temporary.

Other treatments for wrinkles include Skin Boosting injections and medical grade skincare.

Skin Boosting Injections

Some superficial tiny injections are made over the skin in this treatment. It can

Small blebs are formed where the product is injected.  These settle after a couple of days and the skin has an almost immediate improvement.

This treatment can be combined with dermal filler or used alone.

The product used is Teoxane Redensity 1 which has hyaluronic acid, along with a cocktail of nutrients and vitamins.

Medical Grade Skincare

Everyone puts something on their skin – even if it is only water to wash the face!

Medical grade skincare is a step up from beauty hall creams (which can cost huge amounts) that have no proven effect with regard to product reaching the deeper layers of the skin where new skin cells, and collagen is produced.

Inflamed and irritated skin can really affect the way you feel and clearing it can help hugely with confidence. Treatments help with anti-ageing (reducing lines and pigmentation spots).

You can reduce hyperpigmentation (such as darkening of the skin after acne, and melasma from pregnancy/ contraception and hormone treatment), rosacea and sensitive skin with medical grade skincare.

Get clear and radiant skin OBAGI products (which can include medical prescribed treatments after a consultation), and AlumierMD medical grade products make a fantastic difference. Medical grade skincare products use effective strength ingredients and carrier molecules to reach the deep layers of the skin.

The number one treatment I would advise for skin is a broad-spectrum sunblock, every day including winter, and even if you are not leaving the house. This will help delay ageing changes, prevent pigmentation changes if the skin is inflamed, and reduce the risk of skin cancer.

Fat Dissolving Injections

Stubborn areas of fat can be treated with injections with Aqualyx, which acts to dissolve the fat.

This can be used on areas like the tummy, upper arms, and under the jaw.
